L'hôtel Plevna.
Situé à Sliema : l’une des plus « grandes » villes de Malte à 5 km de la capitale : La Valette, l’hôtel Plevna est un hôtel 3 étoiles possédant 100 chambres, un restaurant, un bar et un Beach club au bord de la mer à 100 mètre de l’hôtel qui est ouvert durant l’été.
Au seins de l’hôtel, on compte un grand nombre de salarié, difficile de connaître le nombre exact ! Entre le restaurant, le bar, la réception, les bureau et surtout le service aux chambres… Cela fait beaucoup d’employés. Dans mon cas, nous sommes 5 barman dont 3 à plein temps (moi compris).
Après quelques semaines dans mon stage, j’ai très vite compris qu’il y avait un gros « turnover » aux niveaux des employés. On compte un grand nombre d’emplois à temps partiels, et peu d’employés sont à temps complets à part les managers et mes deux collègues barman. Plus j’avance dans mon stage plus je rencontre de nouvelles personnes, et d’autres nous quittent…
Me concernant, mes missions sont simples :
- servir la clientèle de l’hôtel. Une clientèle anglaise et canadiennes.
- m’intégrer au seins d’une équipe.
Plus le stage avance, plus on me donne des responsabilités. J’ai commencé par travailler les night shift (16h30-24h) avec un collègues, ensuite je travaillais le midi et le soir (12h30-14h30 et 18-24h). Et au bout de 2 mois, le grand changement ! je me retrouve seul pour un Day shift (10-18h), c'est-à-dire préparation de l’ouverture du bar, et l’ouverture même, les livraisons, et bien entendu les clients et plus de responsabilité et d’autonomie !
Après avoir tout expérimenté, je peux dire que le Day shift reste différent du Night shift ! Plus calme et moins d’alcool ! Mais toujours autant de boissons !
Niveau emploi du temps : il m’est donnée tout les vendredis de la semaine et il change tout le temps, j’ai deux jours de repos par semaine, et j’ai le droit à deux jours de vacances par mois.
Ce stage me permet à la fois de m’améliorer en anglais mais aussi de comprendre comment s’organise un hôtel surtout du côté du restaurant et du bar. Je ne verrais plus jamais un hôtel comme avant !

With the centres of the hotel, one counts a large number of employee, difficult to know the exact number! Between the restaurant, the bar, reception, the office and especially service with the rooms… That done many employees. In my case, we are 5 barmen including 3 full-time (me understood).
After a few weeks in my training course, I very quickly understood that there was a large “turnover” on the levels of the employees. One counts a large number of employment at part times, and few employees are at full-times except for the managers and my two colleagues barman. More I advance in my training course more I meet new people, and others leave us…
Relating to me, my missions are simple:
- to serve the customers of the hotel. Customers English and Canadian.
- to integrate me into the centres of a team.
The more the placement advances, the more one gives me responsibilities. I started by working the night shift (16h30-24h) with colleagues, then I worked midday and the evening (12h30-14h30 and 18-24h). And at the end of 2 months, great change! I only find myself for Day shift (10-18h), i.e. preparation of the opening of the bar, and the opening even, the deliveries, and of course the customers and more responsibility and for autonomy!After having very tested, I can say that Day shift remains different from Night shift! Calmer and less alcohol! But always as many drinks!
Level timetable: it to me is given all the vendredis of the week and it changes all the time, I have two days of rest per week, and I am entitled to two days of holidays per month.
This placement at the same time enables me to improve in English but also to understand how especially organizes a hotel on the side of the restaurant and bar. I would see never again a hotel like front!
